I'm recently coming back to the online journal scene.
After GJ died I tried scribbld, but I hate it. So I'm
looking for some good communities here at LJ & stumbled
across this one, and really like the whole concept. ^.^
For my first post, I have a few stock icons I'd like
y'all to look at. I recently got into doing stock; it's
my favorite icon subject now, so I really want to do
well on them. Thanks for the suggestions & help in advance.

this is actually my first post here - i've only recently become interested in making icons and had to start from scratch (i really had no idea at all at first). i'd like to present you my first self-made icon (made in gimp) and hope you will comment and give me constructive critique.

As a note, I have been using

dtissagirl guide to Aspect Ratios for dummies. However, I am still having problems, just with cropping. As a note, I use Adobe Photoshop 4.0 I would love to know how to make my cropping better. I just seem to keep missing it up and again. Text is often a problem for me.PROS - Icon making

We have 408 members!! only half of you actually watch this community regularly, which, honestly, doesn't make sense because if you want feedback for your icons, GIVE IT!!!! A little Common courtesy please?!
I'm getting dangerously close to cleaning out membership to just those who watch the community. Now after this post, I'm going to go back all the way to the last entry that didn't get comments, and put in my PERSONAL opinion, I would GREATLY appreciate it if you posters (especially the last 5 or so that havn't received comments, go GIVE them)

This is a problem I tend to run into (I just started making icons out of various Hello! Project screencaps) where my text placing is awkward, and this one in particular is tough. I'd just like some feedback on ways to improve it...obviously I want to go for the "in your face" effect, but I don't want to cover up poor Mari Yaguchi! Also, I know placing "veggies" under her hand is sort of awkward because it doesn't really emphasize the fact that she's pointing at the screen (viewer). Also, any tips in general to just improve it and make it not look so...rough...
also worthwhile to note; picture quality (as in the base) really won't get much better resolution wise. It's a screencap from a downloaded video so....xD
any help would be awesome ^_^ thank you!
